Vadim Mamontov's love for traveling began in his youth: together with a group of friends, he often traveled around the Russian North, skiing in winter and rafting in summer. After graduating from Moscow State University, Vadim began working in an IT company, and in his free time continued to explore Russia.
One of the most striking was the trip to Kamchatka. “Kamchatka is volcanoes, geysers, bears. We wandered around the volcano all night, getting to know each other — then I went in the company of complete strangers to me, the same enthusiasts and travelers,” the entrepreneur recalls. The more Vadim traveled, the clearer it became: there are almost no companies on the tourism market that can organize a trip to the point that he has planned for himself. Each time it was a quest; most of the trips had to be planned independently. This is how the idea of creating my own company arose.
“The history of RussiaDiscovery began in 2005. I am convinced that our country is full of discoveries and opportunities, so from the very beginning we have been traveling only within the country. We opened a foreign direction quite recently. All these 18 years, the main product of the business has been tours to various Russian regions: the Kola Peninsula, Kamchatka, Chukotka, the Kuril Islands, Dagestan, the Putorana Plateau, the Caucasus and others,” says Vadim Mamontov.
About business development and company secret
Since 2014, RussiaDiscovery has grown more than tenfold. Business indicators grew almost exponentially: domestic tourism became popular due, among other things, to the internal situation, sanctions and exchange rates. People who put off a trip to Altai or Kamchatka “for later” decided not to shelve their acquaintance with Russia anymore.
In 2020, interest in domestic tourism grew even stronger due to for pandemics and border closures. “Since 2014, when we increased our performance multiple times, we have not slowed down. Since then, we have grown several times more and have no plans to stop,” says the businessman.
Today RussiaDiscovery not only organizes individual and corporate tours, the company is changing the face of the adventure industry. Vadim Mamontov heads the Commission on Adventure Tourism in the Russian Union of Travel Industry, represents the interests of colleagues from the industry and participates in establishing dialogue with government officials.
