As a result, the entire production process of the Moskvich 3 and 3e models will be carried out at the capital’s plant, including welding and painting. The transition will be completed within the next two months.
The Russian Moskvich brand was revived in the spring of 2022. In May, it became known that cars under this brand would be produced at the former Renault plant, which is located in the capital of the Russian Federation. Nowadays, the production of machines here is carried out using the large-unit assembly method. The Moskvich 3 crossover, its all-electric version Moskvich 3e, as well as the Moskvich 6 liftback are rolling off the assembly line of this enterprise. Later, several more new products will follow, including the Moskvich 5 SUV.
So far, only the ERA-GLONASS emergency call device, technological fluids and a number of accessories have been localized in the cars of the revived brand. However, in the near future, the Moskvich plant is going to switch to full-cycle assembly (including welding and painting of bodies): it is known that the Moskvich 3 and 3e crossovers will be the first to assemble using the small-unit assembly method. This transition will be completed within the next two months.
As part of the transition, the number of components from which cars are produced at local facilities will increase: now assembly will be carried out from more than 900 positions, whereas in SKD assembly, about 50 components are used. Even when switching to full-cycle assembly, the company intends to strengthen quality control of components, this applies to both body parts and assembly parts.
As the press service of Moskvich said, a new robotic system of welding equipment has now been installed at the capital’s plant and the welding and painting processes have been tested . Moskvich 3 and 3e crossovers were also integrated into the production line; in addition, specialists set up robots and worked with programs.
Today, the plant continues to assemble and check the quality of test (that is, pre-production) cars, which are assembled using the small-unit assembly method. Over 50 cars have now been assembled. The company said that deepening localization has made it possible to expand the palette of the Moskvich 3 crossover: in the near future, versions with a two-tone body will appear in the line: the top will be black, and the lower part can be painted in any of the five colors currently available.
Recall that the compact crossover Moskvich 3 is a “re-faced” JAC JS4. Now components for large-scale assembly of models with indexes 3 and 3e come from China. A “regular” SUV in the Russian Federation is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbo engine with an output of 136 hp. (maximum torque – 200 Nm), either a six-speed manual gearbox or a CVT is offered. Moskvich 3e is equipped with a 193-horsepower electric motor (340 Nm) located on the front axle. It received a traction battery with a capacity of 65.7 kWh, a maximum range of 410 km (when calculated using the WLPT cycle).
As previously reported, production of the announced new product — Moskvich 5 — will be launched at the capital's plant immediately through a full cycle, with welding and painting of bodies. Let us remind you that it will be based on the Sehol X6 SUV, which is based on the JAC Refine S5. This model has been available on the domestic market since 2022.
