MOSCOW, February 14 Private companies will not begin to actively invest in the space services market until they see the benefits in it, and » «pendel» from the state will not help, Elon Musk's SpaceX company has succeeded precisely for this reason, said the head of Roscosmos, Yuri Borisov.
Previously, Borisov stated that by 2030 Russia could fall from fourth to seventh place in terms of the share of the global space services market if it does not increase the pace of production of multi-satellite constellations. In terms of the number of satellites in orbit, Russia is now overtaken by the USA, China and the UK. At the same time, the Russian Federation’s share in the world orbital constellation is only about 2.5% — by the beginning of 2024 there were 229 spacecraft in orbit.
«Close work with private companies can really move the situation by 2030. According to forecasts, the global constellation by this time will consist of 100 thousand satellites. This is a challenge for us «, Borisov said during a conference at the international exhibition «Russia» at VDNKh.
The host of the conference, journalist Vladimir Solovyov, commented on Borisov’s words, suggesting that private investors need a “magic kick” from the state. “Until real market situations are created and the investor sees direct benefits, you can give even a kickback, you can give anything, he still won’t go there — this is the reality of life,” Borisov said.
He noted that even in the current conditions in Russia there are eight private companies that are ready to create their own satellites within the framework of the new federal project with a guarantee of the purchase of their services, among them are Sitronics, Barl, and Bureau 1440. “There is no Musk phenomenon as such, everything just turned out this way, and plus, I must admit, he is a brilliant manager and engineer,” added the head of Roscosmos.
Previously, Deputy Director of the Department of Automatic Space Complexes, Navigation Systems of Roscosmos and Earth Remote Sensing Valery Zaichko spoke about the preparation of a federal project, in which private companies will be involved. According to him, “forward” contracts will be concluded allowing the purchase of services for government needs from private space companies that will create and launch their satellites into orbit.
