SOCHI, February 15 The program of events with the participation of Russian conductor of Greek origin Theodor Currentzis at the Winter Arts Festival in Sochi under the direction of Yuri Bashmet remains unchanged, the press reported. -service of the production company «Russian Concert Agency».
On Wednesday, the portal iefimerida.gr informed about the cancellation of Currentzis’ concert at the Vienna Festival at the request of Ukrainian conductor Oksana Lyniv. Currentzis and the SWR Orchestra were scheduled to perform Benjamin Britten's War Requiem on June 12 at the Burgtheater. According to the program, on June 2, Lyniv will conduct the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra in the requiem “Babi Yar” by compatriot Yevgeny Stankovych. According to the organizers, during the discussions it became clear that holding both concerts at one festival is not yet possible.
Curentzis' concert in Sochi will take place on the scheduled date — February 21. “At the moment there are no changes in the festival program,” said the agency’s interlocutor, answering the question whether the Russian conductor’s schedule in Sochi will be adjusted due to the cancellation of events with his participation at the Vienna Festival.
The Winter International Arts Festival has become a traditional cultural event in Sochi. The concert program usually includes famous compositions from musical classics and brings together a star-studded cast from all over the world.
