Tesla has recalled thousands of Cybertrucks to fix a faulty accelerator pedal that is being blamed on employees using soap to assemble the vehicles.
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said, that Tesla has recalled the 3,878 Cybertrucks it has sold to date and that the automaker will fix the pedals free of charge.
It says a faulty pedal pad means it can come off the pedal itself, causing the pedal to get stuck and will cause the car to accelerate and potentially cause an accident.
The regulator said the problem arose because Tesla workers began using soap when assembling the pedal.
“Unauthorized The change included lubricant (soap) to help the shoe assembly on the accelerator pedal. The remaining lubricant reduced the adhesion of the pad to the pedal,” the message says.
