The JAC T9 pickup truck, which has just launched in the Russian Federation, will be turned into a passenger SUV

The frame three-row all-terrain vehicle should hit the market next year. The SUV will obviously share equipment with the donor truck.

The Chinese company JAC intends to release a large SUV: the model will be made on the basis of the flagship T9 frame pickup truck (aka Hunter in China). This was announced in South Africa at a presentation given to local journalists as part of a test drive of the truck. The South African representative office of JAC even showed a couple of images of the future SUV – in particular, the TopAuto publication posted pictures from the presentation slides. By the way, the original JAC T9 pickup truck reached Russia just a few days ago.

The manufacturer itself calls the future model “T9 SUV”, but TopAuto believes that the SUV will be assigned the JS9 index – by analogy with the company’s other purely passenger cars. Judging by the images, in terms of design, the all-terrain vehicle will repeat the pickup truck, except that the radiator grille will be replaced for the upcoming SUV in South Africa: as in Russia, in this country the truck has massive vertical dies, while the SUV will have a mesh pattern. However, the T9 with “mesh” is present in some other export markets (for example, Australia and Mexico).

A model with a similar 4/4 grille is being sold in South Africa.

The dimensions of the upcoming SUV have not yet been revealed. JAC exports a “short” T9 pickup truck: length – 5330 mm, wheelbase – 3110 mm. Moreover, in its native China, the model also has a long-wheelbase version (5620 and 3400 mm).

Inside, the SUV will also probably copy the pickup truck, that is, we are expecting a two-spoke steering wheel, a virtual instrument panel and a vertical multimedia tablet. It is reported that the SUV will have a seven-seater interior.

The equipment will obviously be transferred from the truck. In South Africa, the JAC T9 is now available with a 2.0 turbodiesel engine producing 170 hp, which is paired with a classic eight-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. In Russia, the pickup truck is currently available with a 2.0 petrol turbo-four (224 hp), 8 automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Subsequently, the global T9 should have a hybrid and all-electric version – the SUV will probably have similar versions.

In South Africa, the start of sales of the three-row SUV is scheduled for the first half of next year. The main competitors of the new JAC will be Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. It is possible that the SUV will also have a left-hand drive version – in this case, the model may well be brought to Russia.
