MOSCOW, May 27. A plasma rocket engine is being created in Russia with the participation of Rosatom, according to the annual report JSC Atomenergoprom.
«The creation of a plasma rocket engine with a power of several hundred kilowatts in the future will allow our country to achieve technological leadership in this area and reach a new level of space exploration, carry out interplanetary flights, as well as regular exchange of cargo between the Earth and the Moon,» — the document says.
In 2023, Rosatom scientists manufactured a plasma accelerator with an external magnetic field for a prototype plasma rocket engine with increased thrust parameters (at least six newtons) and specific impulse (at least 100 kilometers per second).< br />
The average power of such an engine operating in a pulse-periodic mode can reach 300 kilowatts.
