A.N. Severtsov RAS Sofia Rosenfeld,
“»We don’t know the reasons yet, but the eider population has been declining in the north of Russia and Alaska for the last forty years. That is, it’s clearly due to some, maybe climatic things, maybe some others. Since eiders feed mainly on mollusks, perhaps something is happening with invertebrates. We cannot say yet, we are only stating that a decline in numbers is actually occurring. And in the Magadan region we must assess the state of the population.» , — said the agency’s interlocutor.
She added that in the Magadan region ornithologists are interested in various waterfowl. After completing work in the region, the scientists will go to Kamchatka. In the fall, they will begin processing the data obtained and will hold consultations with ornithologists from other countries.
