Sir Steve Redgrave urged the Men's Health Minister to encourage more men to discuss the difficult topics of mental health and age.
Speaking on the Chopper's Politics podcast this week, the great Olympian said there must probably be [minister of health for men], someone who may have themselves had issues that could be related to."
"Now I'm pretty well in tune with my body, having been an athlete for 25 years. It took me 9 years to do something after the 2012 Olympics. And if it's taken me 9 years to do something about my mental health and I'm reasonably in tune with my body, what is the general public doing? This is where the government needs to step up.
Sir Steve Redgrave recently discovered that his bad mood may be due to a testosterone deficiency. The condition is also linked to type 2 diabetes, which he discovered before his last Olympic gold in Athens in 2000.
"Just a few weeks ago I was put on to boost my testosterone levels and I have definitely noticed an improvement in my mental health. I would like to see a little more improvement in terms of energy, but at the moment it is very early!"
"So I would advise, of course, men of a certain age to donate blood for analysis, your life can be improved."
