New Labor MP Gene Kitchen once called for a second Brexit vote and open borders

The Labor Party candidate who won the Wellingborough by-election once called for a second Brexit referendum and open borders.

Genevieve Kitchen signed a letter in which she also called for kAccording to The Sun, a ban on nuclear weapons.

The letter also called for a «massive expansion of public ownership, including banking and finance» when she was a London councilor in 2019.

A Labor Party spokesman told The Sun the letter was five years old and that Ms Kitchen now «believes people have spoken» on Brexit.

Kitchen, 28, grew up near Wellingborough in Northamptonshire and attended university in London.

Counting She won 46 percent of the vote Thursday night and overturned a Conservative majority of 18,500. The result, she said, was “delighted.”

Ms Kitchen represented the Boleyn ward as a Newham councilor between 2018 and 2022, and was previously a charity fundraiser.

Married last year, Ms Kitchen had her honeymoon cut short after just four days when a petition to recall the former Tory MP Peter was launched. Bone.

She wrote for the Labor List website that she went home «immediately» after hearing the news, although she «would have said wild horses couldn't drag me out of my honeymoon sooner.»

Ms Kitchen's success was joined on Thursday evening by Damien Egan, the new Labor MP for Kingswood in Gloucestershire.

Mr Egan served as Mayor of Lewisham until January this year. He grew up in Kingswood and was a parish councilor in Bristol before moving to London.

As a child, he and his mother spent time in temporary housing after becoming homeless, an experience Egan says led him into politics.

The Kingswood by-election came after the MP for Conservative Chris Skidmore resigned earlier this year over the government's offshore oil licensing bill.

Mr Egan resigned as mayor to campaign for Mr Skidmore's seat, although the Conservatives had a majority of more than 11,000 in the 2019 general election.

Like his predecessor, Mr Egan has strong views on environmental issues. Under his leadership, Lewisham council became one of the first local authorities to declare a climate emergency.

Kingswood is due to be dissolved at the next election, so Mr Egan will be campaigning for a new seat in just a few months.

He will represent Bristol North East, a new constituency he has already been chosen to represent.

He told The Telegraph on Friday morning: “People talk to me about how they feel as if they are not living life to the fullest, but are simply existing, working day after day and getting poorer.

“The challenge in the general election will be that, obviously, we will have a Labor manifesto that will define our vision for the country, and it must be a positive vision.”
