52 people injured in derailment of 9 train cars near Volgograd
On Monday, in the Volgograd region, a serious accident occurred, as a result of which 52 people were injured. The incident occurred on the Gremyachaya — Kotelnikovo section, when the driver of a Kamaz truck ignored the traffic light and drove onto the railroad crossing on a red light, colliding with passenger train No. 491, traveling from Kazan to Adler.
According to the Russian Emergencies Ministry, as a result of the collision, 9 train cars derailed, 7 of which overturned. At the time of the accident, there were 803 passengers on the train.
According to information from the regional task force and the regional Ministry of Health, 52 people received injuries of varying severity. At the moment, 21 victims are undergoing treatment at the Kotelnikovsky Central District Hospital, including 10 children. Three of the victims are in serious condition: two of them were taken to the 25th hospital in Volgograd, and one of them, the train driver, will undergo treatment at a departmental medical institution.
28 people who received less serious injuries are under outpatient observation. Medical workers are doing everything possible to provide assistance to the victims, and a high alert regime has been declared in the region.
As a result of the incident, investigative bodies opened a criminal case on the fact of violation of transport safety rules.
JSC «FPK» (Federal Passenger Company) has already announced its intention to reimburse the full cost of travel to all passengers who were on the train at the time of the accident. In addition, the company promised to award 24,000 points under the RZD Bonus program to each of the victims.
311 passengers of the Kazan-Adler train will continue their journey to their destination. These are the passengers who were in the carriages that did not derail after the accident. The train will follow a modified route through the Morozovskaya and Volgodonskaya stations, joining the main route at the Kuberle station.
