MOSCOW, August 19 It is better to repair a device, such as a smartphone or laptop, in an official service center, and not in an unauthorized center, repairs in which can only worsen the condition of the electronics or lead to new malfunctions, for example, due to the lack of original spare parts, said Stanislav Gavrilov, head of the MTS after-sales service center.
«Unauthorized centers may not have the necessary spare parts, equipment, and qualifications. Often, they may perform shallow diagnostics and ineffective repairs. In addition, when repairing in private workshops, they may use non-original or used spare parts that are incompatible with the device. This may worsen the problem or lead to new malfunctions,» Gavrilov said.
According to him, there is a misconception that authorized service centers are unprofitable, since they tend to recognize the breakdown as «not under warranty» and charge for repairs. In reality, all repairs are paid for by the service center by the manufacturer. «Any large retail chain is ready to take on all obligations, which simplifies the process and makes it more transparent for customers,» he added.
Gavrilov recommends contacting an authorized service center in the event of a malfunction: they use original spare parts and methods recommended by the manufacturer. In addition, engineers are trained and know the specifics of working with certain devices. This improves the quality of the work performed and eliminates the possibility of repeated breakdowns.
Before taking the device to service, it is worth rebooting or updating the device; this eliminates software failures, which are often mistaken for hardware failures. It is also recommended to disable various types of locks — password or Face ID — and make a backup copy to avoid data loss on the device, and check that access to important applications with personal data is closed.
