The announcement of the «surprise» in the company was accompanied by images of a supercar with a V10 engine in racing «garments». What exactly the company has prepared for the “last lap” of the model will become known next week.
The production of the Audi R8 sports two-door car was launched back in 2007, while since then the model has changed generation only once — in 2015 -m. Earlier it became known that 2023 will be the last year for this gasoline supercar, and it will not have a direct successor. The company promised to release a successor in 2025, but it will have an all-electric filling and, possibly, a different name.
Audi announcement teaser
Back in October last year, it became known about the farewell version of the Audi R8 Coupe GT RWD: this rear-wheel drive sports car received a carbon aerodynamic body kit and customizable drift mode. Recall that this special edition was released in a limited edition, which consisted of only 333 copies.Such a “farewell” gasoline supercar was equipped with a 620-horsepower V10 engine with a volume of 5.2 liters, and its maximum torque was 565 Nm. For comparison, the R8 Performance RWD has a naturally aspirated output of 570 hp, while the R8 V10 Performance Quattro Coupe has 610 hp.
As it turned out, Audi has decided to say goodbye to the gasoline R8 with a kind of “surprise” that it has prepared for fans of the model. The manufacturer has so far only noted that «something special» is coming for the «last lap» of the model, and the details will be known next Tuesday, September 12.
The company accompanied the announcement with a series of photos of the Audi R8 Performance in racing “garments”: the pattern on the body consists of red, black and silver rectangles, and there is a small rear wing. It is likely that the surprise for fans of the model will be associated with setting another record, although it is possible that Audi will decide on another final «special» series of cars.
There is still little information about the successor to the Audi R8. It is known that he will receive an all-electric technique, but there are no details about it yet. According to preliminary data, it can be based on either the SSP Sport platform with a flat battery in the floor, or the “cart” on which the new “green” Porsche 718 will be based: it has a vertically oriented battery located behind the driver and the only passenger.
Recall that the prototype of the future all-electric Porsche 718 appeared in May last year. It was equipped with a twin-engine power plant (one electric motor on each axle), the total power of which is 1088 hp. According to the plan, the serial version of this sports car should appear in 2025.
