Synchronized artist Maltsev said that with the introduction of new rules there is a risk of losing the zest #
KAZAN, January 6, Adela Ziatdinova. Four-time world champion in synchronized swimming Alexander Maltsev said in an interview that with the introduction of new rules, Russian synchronized swimmers risk losing the zest in their programs.
In 2022, the International Aquatics Federation (World Aquatics) approved new rules for synchronized swimming competitions.
«»The Russian synchronized swimming team has always been distinguished by its most complex programs and artistry, and now, according to the new rules, “complexity” is simply a set of elements from a table approved by the technical committee, which, in our opinion, are completely incorrectly assessed. Therefore, the situation is such that even weak duets, which have never been competitors for us, can become them if they put together a “complex program” with a large number of technical elements, without thinking about the variability of movements, musicality, artistry, and the entertainment value of the program as a whole,” Maltsev said.
«I believe that with the introduction of new rules, we are at great risk of losing that zest, that beauty that everyone appreciated. It is very sad. This is a dilemma: how to find a balance between complexity and creativity now,” Maltsev noted.
