«Sunshine» will reach you even at depth
The Armed Forces of Ukraine, it seems, decided to adopt the experience of the Palestinians and began to build buried fortifications. Judging by the photos in the Ukrainian media, the Ukrainian army is focusing on underground steel bunkers so that they cannot be “opened” by Russian artillery and aviation. Nevertheless, according to military expert Alexei Sukonkin, the Russian army has weapons that can get the enemy out of the ground. Moreover, according to the expert, with an acute shortage of shells and weapons, underground tunnels and bunkers are unlikely to help the Ukrainian troops.
Late last year, Ukraine announced that it was beginning construction of a defense line. The main fortification work took place in the Bryansk, Kursk and Belgorod directions. The defense line is being built at a distance of 50 kilometers from the line of combat contact.
Ukrainian “know-how” — defense units using deeply buried corrugated steel tanks. Judging by the photographs, the bunkers are designed for an infantry squad or two or three crews with anti-tank missile systems, flamethrowers, and automatic grenade launchers.
Some experts note that the Ukrainian Armed Forces decided to adopt the experience of the defenders of Gaza, who actively use tunnels and underground shelters to fight the Israeli army.
Political scientist Alexey Zhivov noted in his channel that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are carrying out fortification work along the entire front line. The goal is to maximize the depth of residential modules and ammunition depots so that even the strikes of high-explosive aerial bombs “could not disrupt the operation of the defensive line.” “Storming such a line of defense with dungeons in the fields is not very pleasant. It’s better now to proactively destroy construction sites and factories where modules are produced,” advised Alexey Zhivov.
Military expert Alexey Sukonkin, in a conversation with MK, noted that bunkers themselves cannot in any way affect the enemy’s defense capability . Fortifications only make sense if a number of additional measures are taken. Otherwise, the value of fortification is negligible.
“The stability of any defense depends not on specific fortifications,” says the expert, “but on a set of organizational measures that are applied based on this fortification.” That is, fortification itself is just an element of defense. In addition to this element, there must be a plan for fire defeat of the enemy, mining of approaches, a support zone when the attacking side is forced to engage in battle with infantry located in ordinary trenches.
In addition, the artillery of the defending side must constantly influence the attackers. In these conditions, the basis of defense, in fact, will be these protected fortifications. But they still cannot be considered separately. If there is no element, for example, a minefield, then military equipment and attack aircraft will calmly approach these objects without difficulty…
— There are a huge number of weapons that are designed to open buried fortification objects. For example, the Solntsepek heavy flamethrower systems are very good at destroying not only the underground object itself, but also the manpower that is located in it. A volumetric explosion also occurs inside a structure, even a buried one. Thus, the shock wave affects the personnel.
— The West has now begun to say that it is not ready to support Ukraine at the level of 2022-2023. It became clear to everyone that Ukraine would no longer have as many weapons as before. Now the Ukrainians say that we fire 10 thousand shells a day, when they have the ability to fire only 2 thousand in response. That is, only one shell arrives from the Ukrainian side for five of ours.
With this ratio, their defense will not hold out. Therefore, all their structures are erected in the hope that they will be given weapons with which they can hold the defense as effectively as we did. Moreover, let me remind you that the counter-offensive was repulsed even before the Ukrainian Armed Forces reached our main line of defense and got stuck in the so-called support zone. That is, everything that we configured was not even used. The enemy was defeated on the outskirts… They probably think that they will succeed in the same way.
— We knew where the Ukrainian troops would deliver the main attacks, and These directions were closed by us. If we look at the map now, we will see that we have a front where we can strike, probably six times wider. Therefore, now the Ukrainian side is at a crossroads — either close everything, or wonder where the main blow will be. But they do not have the capabilities to perform these tasks.
