MOSCOW, January 10. NCFU scientists have developed a technology for identifying oil in complex oil-bearing formations — carbonate reservoirs. As the university press service reported, the proposed technology for identifying the most promising zones for additional exploration and development of oil and gas fields has already shown good results in the example of the Eastern Ciscaucasia.
According to experts, the technology for forecasting additional oil production has social and economic significance. In particular, scientists from the North Caucasus Federal University claim that “such a development will save jobs in rural areas of the country and optimize the costs of drilling wells due to their more accurate placement in zones of increased fracturing.”
In the study, scientists focused on carbonate deposits within the oil fields of the Velichaevsko-Maksimokumsky swell of the Eastern Ciscaucasia. The age of the deposits is more than 150 million years.

“We identified zones of increased productivity and built digital geological models of carbonate deposits,” said Katerina Chernenko, a senior lecturer at the Department of Oil and Gas Geology of NKFU, adding that for this purpose, “a comprehensive analysis of satellite images and geological and field data, interpretation and interpretation was used structures of the central type.»
According to scientists, the implementation of the results obtained in the work of enterprises in the oil and gas sector will help strengthen the country's energy potential through a more effective way of identifying productive zones for production.
“As you know, there is a need to increase the hydrocarbon potential of Russia,” emphasized NCFU Rector Dmitry Bespalov, adding that the results obtained are of great interest for the oil and gas regions of the country.
