ST. PETERSBURG, January 17. Honored Artist of Russia Alexander Vontov, who played Joseph Stalin in the film about Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya, died at the age of 74, the Komissarzhevskaya Theater, where Vontov served since 1977, reported on the VKontakte social network.
«The V. F. Komissarzhevskaya Theater regrets to announce that today the honored cultural worker, Honored Artist of Russia Alexander Borisovich Vontov passed away… Bright, strict, witty Alexander Borisovich will forever remain in our hearts. News of his departure is a hard blow for us,” the theater’s page says.
The date and place of farewell to the artist has not yet been announced.
Vontov was accepted into the troupe of the Komissarzhevskaya Theater immediately after graduating from LGITMiK in 1977. Over the years of service, the actor played more than 80 roles. Among his latest film works is the role of Joseph Stalin in the film “Zoya” about the feat of Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya.
