KRASNODAR, January 22 Investigators have opened a criminal case against a man who attacked police officers with a knife in the building where the Consulate General of the Hellenic Republic is located in Novorossiysk.
“A criminal case has been opened against a 37-year-old man. He is suspected of using violence against government officials in connection with the performance of their official duties (Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation),” reported the RF Investigative Committee for the region.
According to investigators, on the evening of January 16, police officers were guarding the territory of an object in Novorossiysk, located on Mira Street, when a 37-year-old man entered it. As a source in law enforcement agencies clarified, we are talking about a building on the second floor of which the consulate of the Hellenic Republic is located. The security guard stopped the suspect on the first floor because the man was in an “insane state.”
The Investigative Committee adds that the police took the man out of the territory, but he again climbed over the fence and began to threaten the employees with a knife. The man did not respond to the police’s demands to drop the knife. His actions were stopped.
It is noted that at the request of the investigator, the suspect is in custody. In the near future, the man will be charged and a comprehensive psychological and psychiatric examination will be ordered.
The criminal case is under the control of the prosecutor's office of the Krasnodar region.
