ST. PETERSBURG, January 22 Monkeypox was detected in two men who returned from China to St. Petersburg, the city department of Rospotrebnadzor reported.

"The Office of Rospotrebnadzor in St. Petersburg informs about the detection of two cases of monkeypox in tourists arriving from China. The disease was diagnosed in two men who returned from a tourist trip to the administrative region of Hong Kong (People's Republic of China), the report says.
The sick people were hospitalized with characteristic symptoms in an infectious diseases hospital. There is no threat to the lives of patients.
Rospotrebnadzor emphasized that specialists promptly carried out a set of anti-epidemic measures. Further spread of the infection was prevented. Those in contact with the sick are under medical supervision.
Monkeypox is a rare viral infection that is also transmitted between people. It is usually a mild illness and most people recover within a few weeks, but some may experience complications. Initial symptoms include fever, headache, muscle pain, back pain, swollen lymph nodes, chills and exhaustion. A rash may develop, often starting on the face and then spreading to other parts of the body.
