He explained this by the incompatibility of the ongoing discrimination against Russians with the declared values of the union
Russian scientist Artem Oganov called on the President of the IUGS (International Union of Geological Sciences) John Ludden to resign due to discrimination against Russian scientists . The scientist reported this in his telegram channel.
Let me remind you that on April 7, Geologist’s Day, Russian scientists, previously invited to the International Geological Congress in South Korea (scheduled for August), received a demand from the leadership of the International Union of Geological Sciences to remove Russian affiliation. In other words – participate under a neutral flag. Russian geologists were offended and called it “discrimination and racism in science.” and, naturally, they refused to follow the recommendation. This was reported by “MK” Chief Researcher of the Geochemical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Felix Kaminsky, who, like Artyom Oganov, as well as other previously invited people, did not hesitate to confront an unpleasant fact. Kaminsky, according to him, sent a letter to the organizing committee of the congress in which he called the actions of the organizing committee dividing the scientific community. “…I can no longer maintain communication with you until I receive an apology from the organizing committee,” – This is how the scientist ended his letter.
Crystallographer chemist Artem Oganov also refused to give a report at the congress. “You can’t allow yourself to be humiliated…” – he wrote on his social network in April.
Last Monday Oganov wrote another post. He informed his subscribers of a letter he had sent personally to IUGS President John Ludden. The scientist informed him that the anti-Russian policy is illegal, as it contradicts the Charter and by-laws of the International Geological Union. In particular, those of its declarations «are aimed at promoting the participation of geoscientists in international efforts without regard to race, nationality, language, political position or gender» and to encourage international cooperation in meeting the geoscientific needs of any country or region.
Oganov also accuses Ludden of lying:
«Literally today I received confirmation from the Russian Academy of Sciences that they have not received any messages from you that you want to suspend your membership in RAS. I don't understand why you misinformed everyone about this and why you didn't include yourself in your sanctions against Russia. I think this will make your resume look worse.» Artem Romaevich concludes his letter by advising Ludden to resign: “It is clear that your values are incompatible with the declared values of the IUGS, and, in my opinion, you should resign as president of the IUGS to prevent further damage and conflict of values.”< /p>
