Tim Scott, senator from of South Carolina, set up a presidential exploratory committee on Wednesday, in the strongest hint that he intends to enter his party's primary.
In the video announcing the move, he lashed out at Joe Biden and «radical left» Democrats.
He said: “Too often, when they are scolded for their failures, they use race as a weapon to divide us and maintain their power.
“When I resisted their liberal agenda, they called me a mainstay. Token. 'Cause I'm breaking their narrative. I threaten their control. They know that the truth about my life belies their lies.”
Creating an exploratory committee is a common first step for presidential candidates. This will allow his team to step up their fundraising efforts and pay for his trip before the official announcement.
If he enters the race as expected, Mr. Scott will join what is expected to be crowded.

As the only African-American GOP senator, Mr. Scott has a unique platform to discuss race.
He has been outspoken about progressives' calls to «defend the police» while leading the Republican initiative on criminal justice reform.
At times, he has not shied away from criticizing Mr. Trump, for example, suggesting to the then president that “the moral authority [has] been compromised” by his comments after the deadly white supremacist rally in 2017.
His measured approach allowed him to criticize Trump without alienating the Republican leader or his supporters.
For the most part, Mr. Scott defended Mr. Trump's policies, saying, «I think everyone wants to be on President Trump's side.» Scott's supporters believe he can bring more black voters who vote overwhelmingly Democrat into the Republican fold.
And his comfortable 2022 Senate reelection—with more than $20 million remaining in his purse — cemented his status among the next generation of prominent Republicans.
However, in preliminary polls, Mr. Scott is performing poorly against rivals Mr. Trump and Mr. DeSantis, who enjoy double-digit support.
