Ford has unveiled another version of its SuperVan racing van, and this time it's not just a show car, but a real battle car — in next Sunday he will storm the legendary Pikes Peak.
SuperVan is already a good tradition of Ford: the first van with this name was released in 1971 and was made in advertising and entertainment on the basis of the then hooded Transit. The first SuperVan, like its two successors, had a racing gasoline engine, and last year the fourth in a row, but the first electric SuperVan, debuted at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The transition to electric traction made it possible to radically increase the power of the supervan: if the third gasoline one had “only” 650 hp, then the first electric four electric motors (one for each wheel) give out a total of 2000 hp

Both electric versions were developed by the Ford Performance sports division together with the Austrian racing team STARD, but if last year's SuperVan was created mainly as a show car and had elements that were unnecessary in terms of functionality (for example, a large multimedia screen in the cabin), then the SuperVan 4.2 is an uncompromising racing car, optimized for the legendary 20km Pikes Peak in Colorado.

Cars prepared for Pikes Peak races traditionally have a very developed aerodynamic tail, and the Ford SuperVan 4.2 is no exception: the “board” of the front slitter is extended far forward, the composite rear wing greatly exceeds the dimensions of the body, the rear bumper is, in fact, one gigantic diffuser. Clamping load at 150 mph (241 km/h) is 2 tons. The body is made of tubular steel, all exterior panels are made of carbon fiber, the front is stylized as a serial Ford E-Transit Custom.

The Ford SuperVan 4.2 development team wanted to achieve the optimal balance of mass and power, and therefore in the cabin there is now no “tinsel”, only the most necessary equipment, and the power plant now three-engine (one on the front axle, two on the rear), peak power is reduced to 1050 kW (1428 hp), maximum regenerative power is 600 kW (816 hp). Lightweight magnesium alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires hide powerful carbon-ceramic brake discs. Reinforced drive shafts, full polycarbonate glazing.
Upcoming 101st race at Pikes Peak will be held on June 25, Ford SuperVan 4.2 entered in the Pikes Peak Open group and has already qualified, the management was entrusted to an experienced French racer Romain Dumas.
