The brand under which it is planned to produce all-electric new products was named Lingxi, and the first concept that opens the family was called briefly — “ L».
The Japanese brand Honda in China is actively promoting the “green” direction: after 2027, all models produced by the brand in the Middle Kingdom will be either hybrids or electric vehicles. And the Japanese company plans to switch to producing exclusively electric cars in 2035. Last spring, Honda showed prototypes of the future coupe-shaped crossovers e:NS2 and e:NP2, which will become the closest relatives of the Honda e:NS1 and e:NP1 SUVs that have already entered the local market.
Honda has several joint ventures with Chinese automakers, one of them is with Dongfeng. In addition to existing projects (in particular, the production of e:NS1 has been established at the joint venture’s facilities, and later the cross-coupe e:NS2 will join it), now there is an official announcement of a new brand, under which the Dongfeng Honda joint venture plans to develop and produce exclusively electric vehicles.

The presentation of the new electric sub-brand took place as part of a special event in Wuhan, which was held under the slogan Stay Ahead (literally translated from English — “stay ahead”). The brand is called Lingxi: according to Dongfeng Honda deputy general manager Pan Jianxin, the brand will strive to “always be on the same wavelength with its users.”
Dongfeng Honda explained that when developing the logo, the designers were inspired by the image of a “flying bird.” It was decided to use the so-called qing (a shade of blue-green) as the corporate color of Lingxi, which, as noted in the joint venture, simultaneously correlates with both the rich traditional Chinese cultural heritage and modern fashion aesthetics.
During the presentation of the sub-brand, a harbinger of the future first-born was also presented: the concept was called Lingxi L. Dongfeng Honda has already confirmed that this show car will form the basis of the production model of the new brand. According to Pan Jianxin, the debut of the commercial Lingxi L is scheduled for 2024, a more precise date will be known later. The concept received a sloping black roof, L-shaped running lights connected to each other by a luminous strip, a line that crosses the hood in the center and “flows” into the logo, and unusual triangular main headlight units.
The sides of the Lingxi L were decorated with expressive stampings, luminous curved stripes, large rims and rear view cameras instead of traditional exterior mirrors. The rear lights echo the design of the head optics, their upper parts are connected to each other by a luminous line across the entire width of the stern.
There is no information about the technology of the show car yet. It is only known that when developing models of the new sub-brand, the manufacturer will rely “on 20 years of experience in creating Dongfeng Honda technologies.” It is worth noting that next year, a joint venture of Japanese and Chinese companies will officially launch its fourth plant in the Middle Kingdom.
