Megan Rapinoe came under fire after she said the injury she suffered in her last match as a professional player was proof that God does not exist.
< p>The two-time World Cup winner and 2019 Ballon d'Or winner suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during the opening match. minutes into Saturday's NWSL Championship final between her club OL Reign and eventual title holders Gotham FC.
But the 38-year-old received backlash on social media after he said after the match: “I'm not a religious person or something like that, and if God existed, this is proof that he does not exist.”
“This is fucked up. This is just fucked up. Six minutes later and I'm eating my Achilles.»
Her remarks offended some Team USA fans on social media, with broadcaster Piers Morgan, writing for Sky News in Australia, saying: «I'd say it's more seems like definitive proof that God exists, and he shares my opinion that this arrogant, pink-haired, self-promoting diva did not deserve the glorious send-off she so desperately craved.
“Not for the first time in recent years, Rapinoe's gigantic ego has been exposed for writing checks that her once great but now fading talent could not cash.”

Former ESPN sports anchor Sage Steele also called Rapinoe a «narcissist.»
California-born Rapinoe later said she was joking, adding: «Thank God I have a damn deep sense of humor. It's terrible to be in the finals so early.
Everyone is always like, «Who kicked me?» And obviously no one was even close to me and I was pressing. That's what it felt like: just a huge pop and I can't even feel where my Achilles is, but I'm pretty sure I tore my Achilles. Worst outcome.»
Saturday's final brought down the curtain on the forward's career, which has seen her play 203 times for the United States, scoring 63 goals and providing 73 assists.
