NOVOSIBIRSK, December 14 Artistic director and chief conductor of the Russian Academic Orchestra of the Novosibirsk Philharmonic, People's Artist of Russia Vladimir Gusev died at the age of 84, the Philharmonic reported on Thursday.
“»The passing of Vladimir Polikarpovich Gusev has become a huge and irreparable loss for the cultural and social life of the region. The staff of the Novosibirsk Philharmonic deeply mourns and expresses sincere condolences to his family and friends,» the message says.
Vladimir Gusev worked in the Russian Academic Orchestra for more than 50 years and headed it as chief conductor and artistic director for over 45 years. The orchestra's repertoire currently includes over 5 thousand works, some of them written by Siberian composers and dedicated to the orchestra. For their outstanding contribution to the development of national culture, the group received the title of academic, which only four groups of this genre have in the country.
«Under the direction of Vladimir Polikarpovich Gusev, the Russian Academic Orchestra performed with the country's leading singers: Zurab Sotkilava, Joseph Kobzon, Arthur Eisen, Renat Ibragimov, Vladimir Matorin, Irina Dolzhenko and many others,» the Philharmonic noted.
In addition, thanks to Gusev, the orchestra found itself at the center of major educational and festival projects. Among them are the International Festival of Folk Instrument Orchestras «Strings of Siberia», the program «Young Talents of Siberia» and others.
