MOSCOW, January 6 Russian composer Viktor Ekimovsky died at the age of 77, according to the website of the Union of Composers of Russia.
Ekimovsky was born in 1947 in Moscow. He studied at the Gnessin Institute at the Faculty of History, Theory and Composition. He taught at GITIS for several years. He defended his dissertation for the title of candidate of art history at the Leningrad Conservatory.
Ekimovsky created about a hundred symphonic and chamber instrumental works. He considered the principle of uniqueness to be the most important thing in his work and strove to create his own style.
Ekimovsky has headed the Association of Contemporary Music since 1996, and also served as secretary of the Union of Composers of Russia.
