CSKA Moscow took drastic measures after failure in the current in the Gagarin Cup, in which the army team finished their performance after the first round. Such a high-profile failure could not lead to personnel changes. At least this is true for the army. Following a meeting of the club's supervisory board, it was decided to part ways with Sergei Fedorov. His contract, which runs until April 30, will not be extended.
Instead of Fedorov, the post of CSKA head coach will be taken by Ilya Vorobyov. His last place of work was Metallurg Magnitogorsk, which has been headed by Andrei Razin since this season.
With no room for error, CSKA is no stranger to cutting to the quick. A similar fate that affected Sergei Fedorov previously befell Igor Nikitin. The eminent specialist was not forgiven for his defeat in the final of the Gagarin Cup in 2021, when the army team lost to Omsk Avangard. It is symbolic that Fedorov lost his job precisely after the defeat from Nikitin, whose Lokomotiv is rushing to the coveted championship.

And it's even sad. It would be very interesting to see how Fedorov would cope with the task of returning CSKA to its usual path. Moreover, the army club is clearly expecting a restructuring this off-season. Global or point — it doesn’t matter so much. But Sergei Viktorovich, as expected, was not granted this right.

Before CSKA, Ak Bars actively featured in relation to the status specialist. Kazan, like the army team, finished the current season at the stage of the first round of the playoffs, after which the legendary Zinetula Bilyaletdinov said that he no longer saw the opportunity to continue leading the team. It was Vorobyov who was predicted to take his place. But CSKA turned out to be more agile.
