It was reported by geneticist Evgeniy Rogaev
In Russia, for the first time, the “immortal” jellyfish Turritopsis dohrnii was grown in laboratory conditions. This was announced on Wednesday at a meeting of the Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences, dedicated to the problem of combating aging, geneticist Evgeniy Rogaev.
Scientists have long paid attention to the jellyfish, which is reborn from its polyp, which appears at the last (conditionally) stage of development. It was believed that it was impossible to recreate suitable conditions for a jellyfish in the laboratory, but Russian scientists still succeeded. According to Rogaev, the jellyfish is fed with fresh shrimp and oyster oil. Recently, researchers recorded the full cycle of degeneration of the Turritopsis dorhnii jellyfish in captivity.
