The German crossover was recently updated, at the beginning of last year, and a few weeks ago, spy photographers again captured camouflaged test samples of the GLE, hinting at another restyling. What will it be like?
The mid-size crossover dates back to 1997, when the first generation of the model called ML (M-Class) was introduced. It was renamed GLE in 2015 along with the restyling of the third generation of the SUV. Today, the fourth generation of the model is on the assembly line, which was demonstrated in the fall of 2018. As already mentioned, last year the GLE went through a planned update, and, in theory, a completely new generation of the car should now be developed. However, recently published spy photos on the Internet make it clear that another update for the crossover is being prepared. Two restylings are a very rare occurrence in the modern automotive industry; one recent example is the direct competitor of the Audi Q7, which was updated again earlier this year.

So far, in the available spy photos, the prototypes only have camouflage on the front. Here you can see larger headlights of a different shape, which will already make the second restyling more significant than the first. Probably, the radiator grille will be made in the new Mercedes-Benz style — with a contrasting black edging around it, visually extending into the headlights. The rear of the body does not yet have camouflage and is completely identical to the current model, but we can assume that during the restyling, the GLE may for the second time receive lights with modified graphics (we have depicted a version made in the style of the new E-Class). In addition, the crossover shown in the rendering received a modernized rear bumper.

The update will also affect the interior: a larger multimedia system screen and, probably, a new steering wheel are expected to appear here . There is no reliable information about the technical features yet, but it can be assumed that, following the example of the recently presented updated G-Class, the crossover in civilian versions will get rid of V8 engines in favor of an in-line biturbo six.

The premiere of the restyled Mercedes-Benz GLE may take place in 2026.
Meanwhile, the day before yesterday the serial electric G-Class was officially presented.
