Military expert Alexey Sukonkin explained what determines whether Russian Army General Sergei Surovikin will return as commander to the Northern Military District zone. NEWS.ru writes about this.

The analyst suggested that the general was remembered in Russia and the West primarily for organizing the defense line of the Russian Armed Forces, which received the unofficial name “Surovikin line”, which helped, among other things, to withstand the onslaught of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the failed counter-offensive of Kyiv in the second half of 2023.

According to the expert, whether or not Surovikin will be returned to the Northern Military District zone to command one or another formation depends only on the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Sukonkin also explained where the rumors about Surovikin, which periodically appear in the media, come from, and put an end to the disputes about his whereabouts.

Recall that Surovikin’s entourage made a statement regarding rumors about the general’s alleged impending visit to the Kremlin. Sources said that the general continues to carry out the tasks assigned to him by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of Russia in a “certain direction.”
