MOSCOW, 21 Feb— , Andrey Vasilchin< /strong>. Two Ukrainian basketball players of the German club Giants Dusseldorf, 17-year-old Vladimir Ermakov and 18-year-old Artem Kozachenko, died after a brutal attack in Oberhausen.
The incident occurred on February 10. According to foreign media reports, the athletes, who allegedly went to buy new sneakers, were traveling from Dusseldorf by bus; on the trip, a conflict arose with a group of teenagers from Gelsenkirchen. One of them inflicted a dozen fatal blows to the basketball players in the chest and stomach. Two more people were also injured during the attack.
Local police detained four suspects:
- A 15-year-old schoolboy of German-Turkish origin became the main defendant. He is known to the police for several crimes involving bodily harm and robbery;
- Also handcuffed were one teenager of German-Greek origin (14 years old) and two Syrians (14 and 15 years).
Ermakov died on the spot from his injuries, and Kozachenko was taken to the hospital in critical condition. According to Artyom's father, the conflict occurred after the teenagers learned about the Ukrainian origin of the basketball players.
Ukrainian Foreign Ministry representative Oleg Nikolenko spoke about the tragedy in Germany on social networks:
“< p>"The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has taken special control of the investigation into the murder of a basketball player in Germany. The Consulate General in Dusseldorf has already held negotiations with the head of the police of the city of Essen. According to available information, the attacker was detained. Investigative actions are ongoing.”
Unfortunately, the doctors were unable to save the second young man: at first, Kozachenko’s condition was assessed as stable and serious, but then his body gave in. As a result, the young athlete died on Tuesday.
