Russia's foreign trade turnover is gradually reoriented towards the markets of friendly countries. According to the Federal Customs Service, their share is close to 70%. But, despite sanctions pressure and new geopolitical realities, domestic business continues to strive for traditional markets. Necessary attributes for foreign trade are international certificates of conformity — mandatory and voluntary. Based on the dynamics of applications for such certificates, one can judge the general trends in foreign trade.
The Sercons company, one of the leaders in the Russian compliance market, carries out certification according to CE and ISO standards. CE is a mandatory quality certification according to EU standards. In many countries besides the European Union, such a certificate makes it easier to obtain a national certificate. Voluntary certification according to ISO standards is a generally recognized competitive advantage when working in foreign markets and a sign of good form.
“Of course, we notice from our clients a general trend towards import substitution. However, many domestic companies still seek international markets. Moreover, the CE certificate is valid not only in the countries of the European Union, but also, for example, in Turkey, with which Russia has good trade ties. Well, it’s worth noting that the locomotives of Russia’s foreign trade relations are now becoming the flagships of the domestic economy, for example Rosatom,” says Artem Kuznetsov, head of the Sercons certification department.
Now many Russian manufacturers have entered into contracts with the nuclear monopolist for the supply of equipment for the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey. This is a unique project: firstly, Akkuyu will become the first nuclear power plant in the country, and secondly, it will provide up to 10% of energy needs. The project is carefully planned in stages, which are strictly followed. To supply equipment to Turkey, domestic suppliers must have CE certificates or declarations. The Sercons company carries out work on compliance certification and testing of equipment on the basis of the largest testing ground in the post-Soviet space, PromMash Test. Clients prefer to contact Sercons also because the company has its own branches in Turkey.
Domestic suppliers also work with another Rosatom facility — the Paks-2 NPP in Hungary. This is the largest nuclear project in Europe. After the station is launched at its design capacity, Hungary will not only fully provide itself with electricity, but will also be able to export it. Russian companies supplying equipment to the Hungarian nuclear power plant must also undergo CE certification. Many of them do this at Sercons.
