MOSCOW, April 18 Director Alexander Ponomarev died at the age of 64, according to the website of the Russian Academic Youth Theater (RAMT).
““Director Alexander Ponomarev has passed away,” the message says.
The theater added that the time and place of farewell will be announced additionally.
Colleagues note that Ponomarev had an amazing ability to “hear the style, atmosphere and special breath of the era he was talking about.”
“”Master of literary theater, capable of re-composing the legendary production of the futurists or crossing Ostrovsky and Khlebnikov. Director of the same “Victory over the Sun” by Kruchenykh, which brought our theater the first “Golden Mask” award in the “Innovation” category (1999), “Shaman and the Snow Maiden” based on the plays by Ostrovsky and Khlebnikov (1999), “Giants and Boogers” based on Kharms, Chukovsky and Marshak (2001), the wonderful “Tanya” by Arbuzov (2003), the poignant play “The Love and Death of Zinaida Reich” based on the play by Semenovsky (2018) and the bright “Flea” by Zamyatin (2021),” RAMT emphasized.
He produced more than 100 performances on radio, in theaters in Moscow, Russia and abroad, and created the theater-studio “Even-Odd” (at the “Creative Workshops”).
