Elon Musk Tesla is under investigation by US authorities for allegedly misusing company funds to build a billionaire's glass house.
The building known internally as Tesla's The Project 42, is believed to be Musk's mansion, which will be built next to the giant electric car factory in Austin, Texas.
It was commissioned to build specialized glass worth millions of pounds. house, the Wall Street Journal reported, prompting an internal investigation by Tesla board members who were concerned about the misappropriation of company funds.
Federal investigators in New York are now investigating the matter and asked how much Tesla spent. about the project and what it was created for.
Meanwhile, the US financial regulator, the Securities and Exchange Commission, launched an investigation in search of similar information.
Regulators are reportedly investigating because Tesla money was used in the project and the transactions were not publicly disclosed to investors. something required by SEC rules.
SEC rules state that publicly traded companies must disclose transactions in excess of $120,000 in which a related party, such as a director, is interested. The rules also require disclosure to investors of any benefits or other personal benefits in excess of $10,000 paid to the most senior directors.
The descriptions of the house can be compared to the Agatha Christie parody film The Glass Bow. starring Daniel Craig and starring Edward Norton as a billionaire tech company founder living in a glass mansion on a Greek island.
Elon Musk continues his business
An SEC spokesman told Forbes that the agency «does not comment on the existence or absence of a possible investigation.»
Representatives from the US Department of Justice, Tesla and Musk did not immediately respond to Forbes inquiries about the comments.
The news comes after U.S. auto security agencies launched an investigation into «Elon mode,» an alleged feature of Tesla's self-driving car software. .
Elon mode allows drivers to take their hands off the steering wheel while the autopilot software is driving the car, which is against US traffic regulations.
This setting was found hidden in the Tesla software. a hacker who repaired his car.
