Pentagon: a Houthi missile hit a cargo ship in the Strait of Aden
The Houthis fired six missiles at two ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
The Houthi missile caused minor damage to a Greek cargo ship flying the flag of the Marshall Islands in the Gulf of Aden. Another missile was shot down by a US destroyer, the Pentagon said.
The Houthis fired six anti-ship missiles from areas under their control in Yemen towards the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, according to central command. Three of them were aimed at the Greek cargo ship MV Star Nasia under the flag of the Marshall Islands: one fell into the water, another exploded near the ship, causing minor damage, and the third was shot down by an American destroyer.
Three more missiles hit the water nearby with the British merchant ship MV Morning Tide, but the ship continued on its way without reports of damage or casualties.
The Houthis have said their actions in the Red Sea are aimed at supporting Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and do not impede freedom of navigation.< /p>
The US and UK began striking Houthi targets in mid-January in response to threats to freedom of navigation in the Red Sea. However, a representative of Ansar Allah called these actions terrorist and aggressive.
