Russian figure skater Vladislav Dikidzhi was attacked with a knife in the subway St. Petersburg. Sport talks about the situation, as well as Vlad’s path in sports.
Since this season, Vladislav has ceased to be just another promising guy in our figure skating. He spent a long time in juniors, right up to the age of 18, although it was obvious to the fans that he had long outgrown the children's level. The skater himself said that coach Oleg Tataurov kept him from switching, and considering how powerful his first senior season turned out, we can say that he was right.
Dikidzhi was always a technical guy: he mastered at least two types of quadruples (Salchow and toe loop) , the lutz and loop were in the blanks. In terms of jumping on the ice, he could do even more than some leading skaters at the adult level, but here’s the thing – the components were completely missing. Just moves from element to element, although Vlad’s programs themselves were tasteful.
At first glance, it seems that there is nothing special about this. How many skaters have we had who could show nothing but jumps? But it is in the case of Dikiji that this fact seems paradoxical, because he is a TikTok star. His social media videos receive millions of views and his main content is dance. Off the ice he moves great, but as soon as he gets his skates on his feet, everything goes away.
The skater himself admits this problem, but no solution has yet been found. Nevertheless, even this small drawback did not prevent him from dominating this season — first there were two golds at the Russian Grand Prix stages, and then a sensational silver at the national championship. Few people in the history of our figure skating have immediately flown so high.
The skater already has a lot of fans, as well as a funny nickname, the roots of which go back to his last name. The athlete’s father is from Bulgaria, and his surname is of Turkish origin and translates as “tailor.” But in Russian they simplified everything — this is how it turned out “Wild G”, “Wild G” and so on. Vladislav, by the way, treats nicknames with humor, but for himself, as he said in an interview, he singles out something else – DKG.
At the same time, Vlad himself does not seem “wild”. But the situation he found himself in on Friday was very serious. Returning home by metro, the skater encountered an inadequate elderly man who held a knife to his throat.
«» Friends, can you imagine, I was almost stabbed to death in the subway. The knife was quite close to my throat. I think I would have reacted a little later — that’s all. At the moment I’m with the police, I’ll write a statement,” the athlete wrote in his social networks. Later, in a conversation with him, he added that he was at the police station.
A more detailed comment on the situation was given by his coach Oleg Tataurov:
“»He has no cuts. This man was inadequate — today is Friday, maybe he was drunk . First, he began to take away his backpack, then put a knife on him. Vlad was wearing headphones, so he didn’t understand anything. Vlad pushed him away and left at the station. For what reason this 60-year-old man put up a knife is unclear. First, we need to find this man . Later, Vlad turned to the police, now he is writing a statement. Let the police look for this person. Thank God, everything is fine. Vlad is going to go to training tomorrow.»
We can only wish Dikiji never to face wild situations in his life again. Let all the craziest things happen on the ice — and only in a positive way.
