The Polish prosecutor's office opened a case against Schmidt, who fled to Belarus
The Polish prosecutor's office opened a criminal case against the judge of the second branch of the Warsaw Voivodeship Administrative Court Tomasz Schmidt, who fled to Belarus. The radio station RMF FM reported this on May 8.
Earlier, he held a press conference in Minsk, at which he stated that he was resigning from his position and would seek political asylum in the republic as a sign of protest against the policies of Warsaw.
The prosecutor's office said that the investigation «is based on the provisions of the Criminal Code regarding espionage,» according to which he faces imprisonment from eight years to life.
The radio station also states that the intelligence services Poland is studying the judge's connections with football hooligans.
«The question is whether he took part in inspiring influential pseudo-fans to incite anti-Ukrainian sentiments», – the report says.
Earlier, Polish judge Tomasz Schmidt said about the danger of Poland being officially drawn into the conflict in Ukraine.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic, Tomasz Sikorwski, said that he was shocked by the information about the escape and the judge's desire to seek political asylum in Belarus.
